Can an institution, community, or nation aspire to greatness if there are no standards? What are the cherished values of a community where lying, stealing, and cheating are tolerable minor infractions? What does character mean? What does excellence mean? Can one feel pride in achievements, or do the inhabitants of today's academical village take pride in being equal in mediocrity?
