I've been debating driving to Bend. As you can see from the map below, getting there would be a detour from my coastal route. So I have decided I will visit it NEXT year when I plan to drive down (or up) the eastern side of the three Pacific Coast states.

In the meantime, here is a useful article about the pro's and con's of living in Bend. Sounds like they need to shut the door for a while!
