The above is one of my all-time favorite quotes. While it is rather judgmental, it does put in perspective a hierarchy of conversation topics which I find insightful. I do wonder where Mrs. Roosevelt would put sports, financial markets and college memories in her hierarchy.


This morning I listened to a podcast of a discussion between Ezra Klein and Nate Silver. These guys are bright lightbulbs. They discussed ideas. Mister Klein is an incredibly insightful interviewer on a range of topics with a focus on political science. Mister Silver is a wunderkind of modeling political races as well as just an incredibly bright person when it comes to probability and risk.


The basis of the discussion was Mister Silver’s new book which he describes here:

Ah yes. Mister Klein is with the NYT. He is a progressive. But I think conservatives will find his intellect to be refreshing. He is quite articulate, and curious. By no means dogmatic, in my opinion.
