Paris, Ohio

Fiddle sticks. I had deja vu driving into town and when I saw the post office, I realized I had been here on the first leg of my trip. In fact this, I believe, is Paris #2. But back then I did not know the difference between an unincorporated community (Paris) and a township (Paris) so I counted my visit as one Paris. Now I can update my total to include the Paris Township here in Stark County.

It is located 4.9 miles south of the site of Fort Nesbit, built during the War of 1812 and commanded by Captain James Irwin Nesbit (1777-1830), who was a founder of Preble County and was the founder of the town of New Lexington in Preble County. Fort Nesbit was one of a series of small forts in western Ohio and eastern Indian Territory established to protect Ohio settlements from attacks by the Native American tribes allied with the British. It is hard to imagine western Ohio was the frontier in the early 1800's.
No trace of Fort Nesbit remains. Twice historical signs have been placed at Latitude: 39.9231720, Longitude…
