Grammar Patrol

I have always thought this sign had too many words. Today, I stopped to ponder how I would change it.


The big problem is the subject — violators should not be the subject, vehicles should; vehicles get towed, violators don’t. The second issue is the use of the passive voice.


I suggest the sign should read “Vehicles towed at owner’s expense.” That’s not perfect because it’s not all vehicles — just the one’s parked by this sign. But I think it is better than the current language.
