Sure hope this cohort of brain surgeons can accomplish their goal of reducing the budget deficit. However, and my MBA might cloud my thinking here, but I don't get why these folks say cutting taxes is the first step in reducing the deficit. (I know the BS argument about enhancing growth. I'm from Missouri and have yet to see an analysis of actual results that proves that's what happens. And I know why -- because you can't prove it. Geez, do I sound like a man-made climate change denier?)
How about we hold taxes where they are and slash my Social Security benefits? That should please a lot of older voters. Abolish the Department of Energy -- except that a huge portion of its budget goes to weapons.
Even Paul Ryan couldn't find $100 million in budget cuts that folks could agree on.
Maybe we could cut Congress' budget by 50 percent. They make about $180,000 per year. Times 435? Then again, if we pay them what they are worth, maybe we can reduce that $180,000 to $30,000. And eliminate their retirement plan.
Maybe we have to admit that we need to raise taxes to pay for what we have. Novel concept, eh?
