North Platte, Nebraska

November 11, 2022

I'm fascinated by these lone trees among acres of corn and wheat fields.

My mom had a good friend named Alma.

Very cool of towns out here to embrace campsites inside the city.

US 6! I hope to drive it across Nevada -- known as one of the loneliest highways in America. Maybe I'll bring a tree from a field with me!

The Platte River -- it is so flat.

As I fly along these highways at 75 mph, I always think of the folks who walked the Oregon Trail. Averaged 20 miles a day. In the heat of the summer -- if they got caught in an early snow they were SOL. This sign notes the number of wagons -- which can lead one with the impression that everyone rode in a wagon -- not true. The wagon was very uncomfortable -- rocking back and forth and no suspension.

Still fascinated that the interstate shuts down.
