This movie is not about the science of climate change. It takes us on a journey through how we became convinced that tobacco and the fire retardant fill in our furniture don't cause cancer. But they do, don't they? We don't question that anymore. Merchants of Doubt may make you think as to whether the same forces that were at play for the tobacco and fire retardant industries might just maybe be at play with the issue of climate change.
Here's a description of the movie:
Inspired by the book by Naomi Oreskes and Erik Conway, Merchants of Doubt takes audiences on a satirically comedic, yet illuminating ride into the heart of conjuring American spin. Filmmaker Robert Kenner lifts the curtain on a secretive group of highly charismatic, silver- tongued pundits-for-hire who present themselves in the media as scientific authorities – yet have the contrary aim of spreading maximum confusion about well-studied public threats ranging from toxic chemicals to pharmaceuticals to climate change.
