San Francisco

May 11, 2021

I learned a new skill today - how to draw on my photos! The above map shows generally where my hotel is located and where Oracle Park is located. As I walked to the park this morning, I skirted Nob Hill and Japantown before crossing through the high-end shopping area of Union Square and ending up at Oracle Park. I generally followed the same path back to my hotel but found myself in the Tenderloin District. Just before getting there I had been thinking that the city seemed rather new and clean. Not in the Tenderloin District. People sleeping on the sidewalk in their filthy sleeping bags, weathered people looking for a handout. While I did not feel unsafe (because it was daytime), I did feel very sad for the folks I saw. In the shadows of the glistening sky rappers of San Francisco and two blocks from stores like Louis Vitton, Burberry, Needless Markups were these folks who live on the streets. The contrast left me with an ache.

Here are some photos I took on my walk.

Around Union Square.

Say hey.
