Based on a sampling of the comments on this WSJ opinion piece, it was unusually poorly received by its readers. I personally felt a tinge of gaslighting after reading the opinion.

My personal take is that I must be careful what I accept as the truth from news sources. It certainly feels good to hear or read news that agrees with my views. And I am now aware enough that feeling is a warning sign that I need to look elsewhere for another perspective, one that makes me feel uncomfortable. Between the two, I can draw my own conclusion.

I was a fan of the Colbert Report in part because I knew Colbert was playing a character and it was comedy. The realty seems to be that too many in the media are also playing a character -- but it's not comedy.
