John Mellencamp. When I look at a list of his hit songs I realize that he was much more prolific than I remember. He always gave me the impression of a rebel, yet his lyrics tell such wonderful stories, often revealing the inner yearnings and thoughts of many a young man -- ones that we couldn't quite put into words ourselves.
Today he lives in his home state on Indiana but has a home on Daufuskie Island just off of Hilton Head.
Here's a 2022 update of a song here wrote a while ago based on his time in South Carolina. Can't really shag to it but it's a good Midwestern effort.
