About Nine-Hole Golf Courses

As of April 2024, Iowa has the most nine-hole golf courses in the United States with approximately 254, which is more than other states with many golf courses, like California, New York, and Texas. Other states with many nine-hole courses include:

Texas: 198

New York: 187

Illinois: 174

California: 171

In total, 14 states have more than 100 nine-hole courses, and most of them are in the middle of the country. Seven states have more nine-hole courses than 18-hole courses, including Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, and Kansas. Alaska and Maine are also two states with more nine-hole courses than 18-hole courses, but they are more geographically extreme.
