City of Rocks State Park, New Mexico to Leasburg Dam State Park

Leasburg Dam State Park, New Mexico

March 3, 2020

Wait! It rains in New Mexico? Indeed it does, with a bit of snow flurries above 7,500 feet. I haven’t had a day like this in a while (excluding Charlottesville, of course). Not a great day for photos although I managed to get a few in before the rain settled in for the afternoon.

I took the “blue highway” today. I had already done part of that route on my way west from Truth or Consequences but there are only so many routes to take in southern New Mexico. I must have crossed 30 cattle guards - new experience closing them on major highways. I saw one lonely cow walking along the highway - I guess he had escaped? 🤪

I stopped in Hatch, New Mexico which claims to be the World’s Chile Capital. It’s festival over Labor Day draws as many as 30,000 people. (I’m thinking Trump was involved with that estimate.). It is also the home of Sparky’s restaurant which is not open on Tuesday’s but which has quite a presence in town.

In the Lake Valley area I saw my first solar and wind project.

Here are a few other photos from along today’s route.

Tonight is definitely a sleep-in-the-back-of-the-truck night as the rain keeps coming down.
