Interesting perspective. You don’t think the demonstrations this summer are in part caused by “escalating tensions between police and black residents?” Do you draw a distinction between “rioters” and “demonstrators?” My experience in Cville is that the demonstrators (non-violent marchers) are black being supported by a smaller group of whites. I don’t know who the rioters (people causing violence) are but it seems they are a small percentage of the demonstrators.I agree we should disregard the positions of the “extremists” - QAnon, Antifa, etc.

As Mark Twain said, History does not repeat itself, but it rhymes. The 1967 riots were summed up adequately and realistically by that quotation, but not the 2020 riots. The large majority of this year's rioters are young, white, Marxists/Anarchists/Alinskyites who simply want to bring down the country, not seek improvements in their home neighborhoods.
