Elida, New Mexico

Elida is the only town you come across in the 92 miles between Portales, New Mexico and Roswell, New Mexico. That is if you consider a town a of 188 people (2000 census) a town. As I drove into town there was a billboard listing the state championships the high school has won. They won the championship in rodeo in 2006. The girls basketball team has won the championship eight or nine years in a row. Impressive - even more so given how far they must have to travel to play games!


I pulled over in the town square of dilapidated buildings and saw this building. I thought the lighting was great but what I really liked was the Roy Rogers standee in the second floor window. May be one of my favorite photos so far.
