February 22, 2021 -- On The Road Again

February 22, 2021

After a wonderful eight-day stay in Paradise with my sister Cindy and my brother-in-law Ken, I hit the road again this morning. Discerning map readers will see that I did not get far -- Google Maps tells me I covered 47 miles. I had to walk around Malibu and I spent a couple of hours at Point Loma State Beach. It may "only" be 72 degrees, but the sun is hot. While at the beach, I searched for available campgrounds and found this one just over the Ventura County line. $45 for a campsite with a water hookup/no electricity. Not that I need electricity but $45 is the most I have spent for a campsite. [To borrow a line from my friend Jeff Craigmile, “would you like some cheese with your whine? Sorry - this campground location is well worth $45!] I got it for two nights given that that the campground is less than 0.25 miles from the beach. I can ride my bike over to there for the sunset tonight.

Thank you to Cindy and Ken for hosting me at Chez Oder for the past week. If the doctor had ordered a week for me, it would have been that one. Great conversation and food, an unbelievably comfortable bed, dogs, horses, nephews, nieces, grand nephews and nieces. Thank you, Cindy and Ken! They even had Dr. Pepper for me. (Sorry for the dental emergency.)

My goal over the next five weeks is to work my way up the Left Coast. I need to be in Charlottesville for a couple of weeks in early April; I will fly there and then upon my return continue my western swing. Given my experience to date, this swing will take twice as long as I expect. So far, the Pacific Coast Highway is a 10+. I only know a couple of other person/place/thing that is a 10+.

These photos are slightly out of order, but they are close.
