Pinehurst

The geography of the Tar Heel state always confuses me. Pinehurst to me is further north and east, and there is no way the westernmost part of the state is father west than Knoxville.
In fact, Pinehurst is west of the geographic center of the state which is located 32 miles northeast of the village.
One more aspect of North Carolina geography that I have discovered - eastern North Carolina (east of Raleigh) is remotely populated (except for the area along the coast).
