I have a passion for old movie theaters. I think it started with the Byrd Theater in Richmond and grew exponentially when I saw the new blade lit at the Paramount in Charlottesville.

I try to remember in each town I visit to see if there is an old theater there. My real interest is those theaters built in the 1920s and 1930s but any classic theater catches my eye.

Unfortunately many of those theaters have been demolished — “they paved paradise and put up a parking lot” comes to mind.

I just found this website that has information about even those demolished theaters — as well as newer ones which I’m not interested in.
