Harry Carey!

Hmm. Our average weight has increased from 166 pounds in 1960 to 198 pounds in 2023. As Buddy might say, "That's shocking."

High fructose corn syrup? Accessibly to fast food (aka, "food" designed to taste good without regard to healthiness)? Increasing financial wealth (on average) allowing us to afford food whenever we want it? More suburban lifestyle where driving the car has replaced walking?

I keep trying to improve my diet. It's hard to break addictions.

PS. I understand that not all of the weight increase is due to poor diet. Look at today's athletes -- they are much bigger than in 1960 in terms of muscle. Some of the increase in average weight might be from some being healthier.

I have often wondered about the use of hormones to accelerate growth of animals as well as genetic modification of plants and animals. What has the effect been on the human body over time?

There must be a word for incremental adverse changes that happen so gradually we don’t notice them as they are occurring .
