How Many Lakes Are There In The Land Of 10,000 Lakes?

Minnesota has 11,842 lakes that are 10 acres or larger, which is why it's known as the "Land of 10,000 Lakes". However, the exact number of lakes depends on how you count them. For example, if you include all basins that are larger than 2.5 acres, Minnesota would have 21,871 lakes. 


Minnesota also has 6,564 natural rivers and streams, and its portion of Lake Superior is the largest and deepest body of water in the state. Lake Superior is 962,700 acres and 1,290
