We’ve all heard this excuse from little kids — “… but he/she did it” as a way of justifying their behavior. And as adults, we respond with something along the lines of “… that doesn’t mean you can do it, too.”
We hear the same argument coming from God’s party these days as they justify their actions by saying the Heathens (meaning Democrats, liberals, antifa) did/do it.
Thats not an excuse. God’s party pretends to hold themselves to a higher standard but they don’t. They cloak themselves as Christians, but they don’t govern that way.
Trump said yesterday as reported in The Guardian, “I hate my opponents and I don’t want the best for them,”
Great, and you are the president of what call the UNITED States?
I was raised Christian, and its teachings still influence my values and behavior today. Let’s just review what the Bible has to say:
From a Google search:
The verse you're looking for is commonly known as the "love your neighbor" verse, which is Leviticus 19:18 in the Old Testament, stating, "You shall love your neighbor as yourself". In the New Testament, Jesus also taught this command, most famously in Matthew 22:39 and Mark 12:31, where he identifies it as the second greatest commandment.
Here are the verses:
Leviticus 19:18 (Old Testament): "You shall not take vengeance or bear a grudge against the sons of your own people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the LORD".
Matthew 22:39 (New Testament): "The second, like it, is this: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself'".
Mark 12:31 (New Testament): "And the second is this: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no other commandment greater than these".
Note: Jesus said the greatest commandment is to love God.
Why is this issue a big one for me? Because Trump and so many of his followers say they are Christian and want a Christian nation. They are hypocrites of the worst kind. Using the cover of religion to justify their unchristian behavior.
We are a country in need of compassion, kindness and understanding. Oh, and truth, not truthiness.
