"It's the economy, Stupid." Whether the president is responsible or not doesn't really matter to many voters -- they will vote for a change if they are unhappy. I suspect that will be in the case in 2024; I hope the Republicans can find a candidate not as divisive as Trump.


I agree that it appears that MMT has failed and is a policy we should not use in the future. I'm not optimistic that will happen because economists and politicians always seem to forget the lessons they should have learned. (Myself, I am a doubter in MMF as well as "tax cuts pay for themselves.")


I pray that soon we will have politicians…

Assuming the monetarist economists are correct, current inflation in developed countries is due primarily to a dramatic expansion of the money supply by central banks, possibly compounded by certain policy decisions taken which have the effect of reducing the supply of fossil fuels supplying energy and petrochemical products such as plastics and fertilizers globally. Governments made the decision to incur significant deficit spending and fund that spending by printing money instead of increasing taxes, borrowing outside the central banking system, or reducing spending in some areas to support new spending in others.
