June 11, 1963 JFK Speech

Purcellville, Virginia

August 25, 2020

I'm reading a wonderful book by Peniel Joseph, The Sword And The Shield. It is a discussion of the roles of Malcolm X and MLK, Jr. in the Civil Rights Movement and the complementary roles their differing approaches and goals had on each other.

I'm about half way through the book and just read about JFK's June 11, 1963 speech. I thought it was working sharing the video of his speech. I'll leave it to you to decide whether we are still talking about the same issues, have made progress or have put these issues behind us. If nothing else, it begs the question "Where have our great orators gone?"

When I finish the book, I'll share my summary. Until then, I can highly recommend the book if you are interested in the roles that Malcolm X, MLK and others had in the 1960s Civil Right Movement. It is an engaging read.
