Homer, with a population of just over 6,000 people, is a scenic seaside town located on the Kenai Peninsula. Widely known as the "Halibut Fishing Capital of the World" and the "End of the Road," it features a unique 4.5-mile-long peninsula known as the Homer Spit.
Things to Do & See
The Homer Spit: Extending into Kachemak Bay, this area is the hub for charter fishing, wildlife watching, local shops, and waterfront restaurants.
Wildlife Viewing & Bear Flightseeing: Homer serves as a major gateway for floatplane tours to Katmai National Park and Lake Clark National Park for world-class brown bear viewing.
Arts & Culture: The town is often called "the cosmic hamlet by the sea," boasting a thriving arts community filled with local galleries, museums (like the Pratt Museum), and artisans.
Outdoor Activities: It is a prime location for kayaking, hiking, and birding, highlighted by the annual Kachemak Bay Shorebird Festival.
Here's a slideshow of the photos I took. Thanks to Willie Nelson for providing the soundtrack -- he's not Alaskan but he fits everywhere!
