Brand new laundromat. Owned by an insurance agent whose first laundromat is about 20 miles away. A welcoming setup -- machines take credit cards and quarters. 20 pound washer costs $3.75; 30 minutes on dryer (minimum) costs $2.00. There is an attendant who will do your laundry for you for $1.45 per pound (next day) -- same day service is more.

Similar setup to the laundromat I used in Jonesboro, Arkansas.

I did some Google searches about investing in a laundry -- here's what an equipment supplier says (of course they are biased):

One website said you can get significant leverage from a bank -- max term of 5 years. Of course, you have a personal guarantee backing the loan.

Charlottesville's laundromat scene is somewhat fragmented -- there is one business that I am aware of that has three locations -- pretty crappy interiors. I wonder if there is a possibility of doing what Tiger Fuel has done -- they have bought up gas stations in Cville and upgraded them with a deli and a much brighter and inviting interior.
