If I have this correctly, a matador and A toreador are both bullfighters but a matador’s goal is to kill the bull.

The mascot of Monterey High School is a toreador — they apparently go by “‘Dores.”

Just in case you wondered. The Pacific Grove High School teams are known as the Breakers which is not as cool as the Pepperdine Waves. Both pale in comparison to the UC Santa Cruz Banana Slugs.
