The "Colbert Questionert" (a playful spin on "questionnaire") is a signature segment introduced on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert in 2021. The recurring bit consists of 15 rapid-fire, whimsical, yet probing questions designed to cover the full spectrum of human experience—from existential thoughts on death to mundane topics like sandwiches.
The Origins & Evolution
The Inspiration: The concept partly stemmed from a memorable 2019 interview Colbert had with Keanu Reeves, whose deep, off-the-cuff response to a question about death went viral.
The Format: The segment debuted in 2021 with Tom Hanks as the first guest. Colbert and his writing team designed a set list of 15 questions that are asked in the exact same order for every guest, with the comedic promise that once a subject answers them, they will be entirely "known" to the world.
