Johnson's Beach Campground
Guerneville, California

I headed out this morning to move north on the PCH. I got to Gualala which might be 30 miles from Ocean Cove. The scenery was spectacular to that point — although the development at Tge Sea RaBach was a bit jarring given how undeveloped most of the coast is.
I pulled up Google Maps to check on how to get to a famous nine-hole golf course called Northwood. Yikes! The course is inland, back in Wine Country near Santa Rosa. I faced a decision - do I divert to the golf course (two hours plus away) or continue northward on the PCH. To help me decide, I grabbed a turkey sandwich on wheat with mustard at a local deli. It was terrific!
I decided my northward journey could wait and I headed back toward Santa Rosa.
I had to double back on the PCH to Stevens Point and then headed east. The road from Stevens Point to Healdburg was a wonderful narrow curved back road — it reminded me of Garth Road in a way. There were enormous trees and spectacular mountain views. I stopped so often to take photos — the short videos below capture part of the drive.
Turns out there golf course is near Guerneville in the Russian River Valley. With the help of The Dyrt app I found a campground on the Russian River. $50 per night. WiFi, showers and laundry. What more could I ask for? Checked in around 3 pm and took the rest of the day off to do laundry and write some posts.
The slideshow below contains some neat photos of old barns I saw along the PCH this morning.
