I thought it might be fun to document how I am feeling about getting back on the road. I have spent the past few hours thinking about what I would write; when I pulled out my computer, the first word that came to mind was "anticipation." I did a Google search on the word to get its definition and up popped the top video. (You think James Taylor ever regrets not staying with her?)
The song is obviously about a relationship (with Cat Stevens it turns out -- the second video).
The end of the song hit me hard and made me start to tear up. She can't predict the future, but she knows these are the good old days. How many of us are guilty of only seeing the good old days in the rear view mirror?
I'm approaching the next leg of the trip with anticipation knowing that all my wrong turns will turn into memorable experiences, that there is nothing to get anxious about and that I am very lucky to be able to make this wanderabout. Maybe there are things that I wish were different in my life, but I am playing with the cards I've been dealt. No, that sounds way to passive. I am playing the cards that I have earned and that life has given me. As one of my bosses, Jack Walter, used to say "onward and upward."
The lyrics:
We can never know about the days to come But we think about them anyway And I wonder if I'm really with you now Or just chasin' after some finer day
Anticipation, anticipation Is makin' me late Is keepin' me waitin'
And I tell you how easy it feels to be with you And how right your arms feel around me But I, I rehearsed those words just late last night When I was thinkin' about how right tonight might be
Anticipation, anticipation Is makin' me late Is keepin' me waitin'
And tomorrow we might not be together I'm no prophet and I don't know nature's ways So I'll try and see into your eyes right now And stay right here 'cause these are the good old days
And stay right here 'cause these are the good old days
(These are the good old days) (These are the good old days) (These are the good old days) (These are the good old days)
Another version:
Be safe out there, and still hoping to see you in May!
