Prestonburg, Kentucky




I don’t often pull over to write down what I’ve seen. This morning deserves such a move.


I drove US 23/US 460 from Prestonburg to Pikesville. Wide four lane highway in very good shape. I assume it’s coal money. Even though I’m in a spare self populated area, I have never lost cell coverage. The scenery is lovely. The mountains are such a beautiful thick green a. Reminds me a bit of Oregon (although the trees there are much taller.). It is really q. The mountains


along the highway I can see strata of rocks — I assume the result of building the highway.


I have only sent one coal mine — I couldn’t tell if it was operational.


While the area looks like there are pockets of “poor ness” I haven’t seen poverty as I associate with Appalachia.
