Charlottesville

September 12, 2025

Ten years ago today, W and I moved to Charlottesville. 674 Evergreen Avenue. It was the happiest day of my life. I know our memories are fallible, but my memory is that everything felt perfect. In spite of all the activity of moving in, I felt extreme calm and peacefulness. It was where and when we were supposed to be.

It was just by chance that we moved in September 12. I never told W but 9/12 was the date I got married in 1987. People have told me that it was a perfect wedding and a union that was going to last. Right.

There is a third meaning of the date to me -- it was the day I retired. That was intentional. It represented an attempt to mitigate (I had typed "minimize" but that's not the right meaning) the pain and a beginning of my wanderabout looking for answers to questions that bothered me so.

Pretty personal. It's part of my continuing wanderabout. Maybe someday somebody will read this post and relate to what I am trying to say.
