Twodot, Montana

Twodot or Two Dot is a small town in Wheatland County. Twodots's legendary claim to fame is that John Wayne took a train to the small town so that he could learn to ride horses and be "a cowboy".

Plentywood is located in Sheridan County and has a population of under 2000 people. So how did they come up with the name? According to local legend, it started with a search for firewood and one fella told the other if he went a couple of miles he'd find "plenty of wood".

Opportunity is located in Deer Lodge County and is just a few miles away from Anaconda.

Anaconda is located in Deer Lodge County and has a population of just under 10 thousand people. Founded by Copper King Marcus Daly, Anaconda was not the first choice for a name. Daly wanted to name the town Copperopolis, but that name was already taken.

Hungry Horse is located in Flathead Country and has a population of under a thousand. Oddly enough, Hungry Horse wasn't the first name of the town. The town was originally named "Damtown" after the dam that was built in the late 1940s.


Lame Deer, Montana

Lame Deer is located in Rosebud County and has a population of around 2 thousand people. The story goes that the town is named after Chief Lame Deer who was killed by the U.S. Army while under a flag of truce back in 1877.

Pray is located in Park County and has a population of around 600 people and is only a couple miles from Chico Hot Springs. The town, which is located in the heart of Paradise Valley actually went up for sale back in 2012.


Nimrod, Montana
