The Southwest Chief’s cars are newer and more comfortable. It has a “viewing car” which is fun and seems to be standard on the trains in the west. It also has a traditional dining car with a chef. Food is good.

Capitol Limited was ok but nothing special. Since most of the ride was at night I can’t comment much on the sights.

Less than 24 hours into the ride from Chicago but I can easily see taking the Chicago to San Francisco route as well as Chicago to Seattle. Plus the train from Seattle to LA/San Diego.

One thing I now realize is that if you get a room, the fare is for two — no single fare. Discrimination against the “just one’s!”

That being said, this is not premium travel compared to what I gather first-class train service is in Europe and Canada. Analogy might be it’s like shopping at Target? But it’s a fun adventure for the sights and people watching. Chicago’s Union Station is a special building.

Babble, babble.
