I think this is the first time I have solicited input. What’s your answer(s) to this question? Feel free to post a comment or send me your thoughts to lucian@going2paris.net.
These are my thoughts, not in any particular order:
Be kind to everyone
Gratituize (I made up this word because I’m tired of the passive sounding “be grateful.”
Love is a verb; when you love, love with every fiber of your being).
Laughter is a barometer of how things are really going
Everyone is an iceberg - explore what’s below the surface to really know someone
Under promise, over deliver in everything you do
know your values and use them as your guide
“To choose” may be the most important verb in the English language. Everything you do involves you choosing.
Love your kids unconditionally and live the values you want them to learn.
Live in the moment. You can’t change the past
eat healthy foods and exercise everyday.
Your life is what happens outside of your job.
Learn to manage your monkey mind
“Should” is a red flag that you are ceding control to someone else. Don’t.
You are never the victim.
you are far from perfect; perfection is not required. Effort is.
Lasting comes from experiences, not from the things you buy.
do more of what makes you happy and less of what doesn’t.
your life is not about you - it is about those you love.
learn to be optimistic
learn how to be resilient
life is full of opportunities to solve problems. Cherish those opportunities.
your to do list is never done
Learn to say no to things that are not important to YOU
Learn to write well
practice public speaking
Courage is not about having no fear, it is about overcoming fear.
Have a firm handshake
showing up is 80 percent of success
Laugh at yourself when you mess up
Don‘t assume - check it out.
think before you speak
don‘t believe everything that you think
Be curious!
Understand that some people will never understand that you can influence the outcome of your teams’ games by watching them on tv. Almost always in a negative way.
Thats the start of my list.
Interestingly similar responses. Perhaps I posed the question poorly. Thanks for your thoughtful answers. 🤙
Buy Polaroid in 1961, IBM in '67, Microsoft in 1983, and Apple in 1985....
Actually I would tell myself nothing. Why? First of all, I would not have listened to some old fart claiming to be me but can't have aged so poorly.... Second, I have not made any mistake in my life that took my life, but I did make many mistakes that taught me valuable lessons that I would not have learned otherwise -- that's why we usually don't listen too intensely to Old Cockers . . . those things just don't apply to us.....
Third, I am who I am ("...and that's all that I am" - Popeye) because of the evolutionary lessons I have learned. Tak…
The advice is there. Sadly, many 21 year olds only have partially developed listening skills. At 21 they want to experience what life has to offer, not listen to advice from those who have already lived decades and have both the battle scars and beautiful memories that go with living.
Ultimately our lives are our own canvas to paint. Try some outlandish brush strokes and if you strike out, pick yourself up and try again.
