Once again, the growth mindset at play. We are not born with math skills -- at least most of us! We need to develop them and that requires effort, failure, resilience and more effort.


I don't think Gladwell addressed this issue. Tiger parents are hard and demanding (their reputation). How do they combine their high expectations with the fact that to be good at math you are going to fail sometimes? That has always troubled me as a parent -- how do you set high expectations while allowing your kid to stumble? Is it not about the outcome but about the effort? At some point it has to be about the outcome, right?
