Love’s Truck Stop
Williams, Arizona
November 29, 2020
It is a cheap thrill for me to sleep at a truck stop. “Thrill” in the sense that I never thought about doing it and if I had, I would have said I’d never do it. All kinds of vehicles are in the corner of the parking lot. People sleeping in cars, vans, trucks, SUVs and RVs. I’d say there were 20-30 vehicles here last night.

It got a bit cold. I fired up the engine for 20 minutes to get some heat at 2 am and then fell back asleep watching A Muppets’ Christmas Carol.
If the east entrance of the Grand Canyon (South Rim) were open I’d head from here to the Grand Canyon then onto Moab. But it’s not (Covid), and I’d have to double back. Plus I’d feel rushed at the Canyon. So instead I hope to detour slightly into Monument Valley which is also closed but not to through traffic.
Sundays of Thanksgiving will always remind me of the drives from Aiken back to Virginia. Those were long hauls, especially to Northern Virginia. I don’t miss those drives.
Agreed....
Love’s, Pilot/Flying J and TA are the big national truck stops. I have a slight preference for the Pilot/Flying J stops as they seem more accommodating to non-truckers.
Love's is a national chain. Few dollars that I've spent have been as well spent as the $12 for a shower at a truck stop!!! They are wonderful oases!
not sure if it is the same company, i suspect it is, but there is a Love's truck stop by the airport in Hagerstown, Maryland. i stop by there for a snack when i visited. always seemed clean, they had showers and bathrooms. also always packed with folks sleeping and not just truckers.
