Fairfield Inn
Stevens Point, Wisconsin
June 2, 2022
I headed out this morning to go to the Stevens Point Brewery gift shop. Before I got into Hi Ho Silver, a woman commented on the stickers on my rooftop carrier. She and her husband are out from Pennsylvania on her mission to visit all the states.
We had a wonderful conversation about our reactions to the different places we have visited. We both admitted sheepishly that — to put it in my words - we find ourselves judging people too quickly. For example, we had both been in MacKinaw City; we both reacted to the folks we saw — let’s say they appeared to be from a different economic class. Why do we react that way? I suggested that it’s human to quickly evaluate people by their appearance but that it is good that we recognize that “issue” and proceed to dig deeper and realize most of us are very similar regardless of our outward appearance.
We touched on politic our children and family vacations to OBX. It was a most enjoyable conversation — not one I expected to have in the parking lot of the Fairfield Inn in Stevens Point, Wisconsin!
Which is really the point of this post. One of the most enjoyable parts of my wanderabout is the conversations I have had with people that I have met. I have learned so much from talking with them and each one has left an imprint on me that has made me a kinder, more understanding and more curious person. I like that.
