Good Morning New Paris, Indiana

Amtrak Train 29

730 AM (ET?)

January 2, 2024

I slept reasonably well -- probably 11 pm to 6 am. My roomette is nothing fancy and sleeping in it was comparable to sleeping in the back of Hi Ho Silver. I started out in the upper berth but the rocking of the train translated to too much movement. I was more comfortable after I converted the seats into a bad with help of the attendant. He is a friendly fellow. I've perhaps overtipped him at $40 but he's been attentive to me.

I've been searching for an analogy to describe my experience so far on the Capitol Limited. The best I've come up with is it's like a two star 1965 vintage Quality Inn. Most everything looks a bit worn and tired. The floor tile and carpets look like they could use a good cleaning. I'm still very excited by the adventure but few would confuse my experience so far with a premium-class experience (not that I expected one).

Sleeping with the rocking of the train and the rail noises was wonderful

Breakfast this morning at 7 am. Microwaved pancakes and sausage patties. Pretty nasty.

Still quite dark outside. My iPhone says it's 735 am. I've had cell service for the past couple of hours.

I'm going to need to stretch when I'm in Chicago; my back and legs are tight and sore.
