Today’s my birthday, I’m turning 64
I think of the future more and more
Does Fate determine what’s to be
Or perhaps my future is up to me?
Get out of your head she would say
She was so right I’d tell her today
Most days now I don’t overthink stuff
I stay in the short grass, away from the rough.
64? Nah, I feel like twenty nine
Well, that’s true some of the time
But that damn mirror I look in each day
Keeps showing me with more and more gray
You say it’s because I’ve grown my hair long
Nope, I’m convinced that mirror is clearly wrong
My friend Cristi set me straight
She said “whoa, listen here, mate!”
Forget the hair, look into the eyes
That where the truth of the soul lies.
How will I spend this birthday of mine?
It depends if the sun comes out to shine
If it does, I'll probably sit in my lounge chair
(And wonder what to do about my gray hair)
If instead it is overcast and cloudy out
I'll review my photos from my wanderabout
Belated Happy Birthday, Lucian!
Nice poem, Wlater. I had no inkling of your literary skills.
Happy birthday, wherever you are.
