November 15, 2022 Noontime Report

Presho, South Dakota

November 15, 2022

I feel very lucky to be in South Dakota for the start of their winter because it gives me an idea of what it must like when winter really sets in. You'd have to really hardy! I've seen a few cars with plugs hanging out of the front -- I may be from the South but I know what those are for.

My photos from my drive this morning are not going to do the scenery justice. Ideal, South Dakato has no paved streets and the roads to and from are not paved as well. The dirt road from Ideal to US 183 was at least 10 miles long.

The landscape on US 183 to Presho was spectacular. Even with a low cloud cover I thought I could see forever. Pasture for the most part but some corn fields. The road was hilly in parts -- at the tops of the hills the views were even more awesome - snow covered fields as far as I could see. Along the way there were a couple of dozen of my favorite trees -- the single tree in the middle of a wide open field. There are so few trees, I actually wonder if South Dakota has a state tree.

I wish I had the vocabulary to describe the scenery I saw. I can just imagine what Ken would paint with his words. All I can do is spit out that it was inspiring. Maybe not Colorado or Utah but very special.
