This video is from the NYT. It offers one perspective on why teachers are quitting. It doesn't mention lack of discipline although we all know that is a factor for some teachers. How? We've heard them say it.
The point is there are multiple reasons teachers are quitting. Will that make the teachers' union more powerful? Gosh, I hope not.
Personally if I were a teacher I would be worrying about how states are passing laws about what can and cannot be taught. I don't get paid enough to worry about "being reported" if a parent doesn't like something I bring up in class.
Instead of making our schools the target of social policy, we are missing the bigger picture -- we need to elevate the caliber of all our schools in order to provide our kids world-class educations.
